Tactica: Tomb Kings - Bored1 | |
| I got really really bored... So...how to start? This would be the first time I’ve written down my thoughts on an army in an organized, structured way, so please forgive me if I’m a bit lost on how to do this (or if I get a bit long-winded…). Before I begin, I’d just like to make sure that it is clear that the following is largely opinion. It isn’t the bible on how to play TK. Instead, it is a prose form of a collection of observations and conclusions that have been gathered by, of all things, playing with the army. If you disagree with something that I say, that’s fine. However, make sure that you can support your opinion, because otherwise you’re really not contributing anything at all. So let’s move on to the actual tactica… Tomb Kings are a unique army within the WHFB game. Why? Well, there are 3 key things that make them completely different from literally any other army that has been released… 1. They can’t march. 2. The TK magic phase is very unique, and also very necessary to how the army functions. There is simply no option for a TK list without magic. 3. In order to win, EVERY TK army requires that you keep a T3, 2-3W character alive for a good chunk of the game (IMO, at least 3 turns). If this was an Elven list, that would be reason to whine, and start revision threads… I firmly believe that these 3 items are the most important things for every TK general to consider. They govern how you build your army list, and how you play with the list. So, what exactly does all this mean? Why does it matter? Well, I’ll go into army list construction later in the tactica, and these points will have a huge impact there. I’ll also go into tactics, and show how they impact that area of playing the army as well. But on a more general scale, they define the feel of the army. They have no heavy cavalry (one of only 3 lists that have been released that can claim this), and their lowest armor save outside of characters is a 3+, and that is on a single model rare choice. The army can have a decent amount of t4, but its core choices are largely t3, and #3 above also shows the overall toughness of the list. In short, the TK list is inherently fragile due to the above, which means that you can’t play the army the same way you play most other fantasy armies. They truly are a “finesse” army.
