The Art of Reconciliation

I’m not talking about settling your differences with your opponent. What I am referring to is how to grit your teeth and accept hopeless fights as losses. You know what they are. I’m sure everyone had that gut feeling before. Ever feel you are just sending your fighters to their doom when they are suppose to reinforce another group in trouble? Picture this… your right flank is in dire trouble, but the army is in a stretched line formation. At best, only the closest fighters on the right side can be in range this turn. Next turn, you would be able to get more reinforcements to the troubled flank. The problem is your trickle in reinforcement offers more as meat rather than a threat. If you have to bring more force to bare against your opponent, bring an organized effective force or bring nothing at all. It is sad but it is true. Sometimes, you just have to sacrifice the hopeless in order to save the whole. Maybe the beleaguered troops will surprise you. But even if they do, it is more prudent to regroup the remainder of your fighters and mount a proper counter assault with the maximum force you can bring. If you don't, you will get picked off one small group at a time by your opponent. If you still need more visualization, imagine yourself lining up your troops for maximum pursuit movement to your opponent’s benefit. This is what you are doing when you carelessly rush your reinforcement over without some foresight on the possible advantages you are providing to your opponent. Bottomline… If the other Arts are followed, this installment shouldn’t be considered very often. Then there is the exception, there will be times when you need to sacrifice a few troops in order to advance your army to the objective. Especially, when you have to use some fighters to cover the main army against ranged attacks. However, if you have a balanced army, you should be able to counter such threats without the need to sacrifice your fighters. If not, I hope you had thought about how to counter such threats in advance.
