Armoury: Necrons - Daffrid | |
| Love, them, loath them, bemoan them, own then Necrons are a formidable foe and the battle fields of the 41st millennium, but apart from all those lovely (depending on your viewpoint) special rules what scares a lot of people is the weaponry they carry so with ought further ado lets examine their small, but deadly arsenal. The Necrons carry a range of deadly gauss weaponry, which has some rather excellent features, it fires an energy field at the target which pulls it apart at the atomic level rendering the target somewhat 'flayed'. This has an added knock on effect for Necron players; a gauss weapon can damage the toughest troops and heaviest armoured vehicles, against a troop/monstrous creature which could not normally be wounded by a weapons strength a gauss weapon will cause a wound on a roll of 6 (on the to wound roll) and against vehicles if the weapon strength would not normally course damage a roll of 6 on the penetration roll will cause a glancing hit. It would be hard to underestimate how useful these abilities are. Gauss flayer: The most commonly seen Necron weapon, carried by Warriors, it has the same stats as a bolter, but with added gauss goodness, rapid firing flayers are possibly the most feared anti infantry weapons in the game, it's a pity therefore that the most common basic troop is a marine, who will get their save, so possibly a bit under whelming. Gauss blaster: Carried by the elite Immortals and Pariahs, it's a very deadly assault weapon with improved armour penetration and strength, able to take down; Marine scouts, Tau, Aspect warriors and Tyranid warriors without much trouble, so quite useful then. Gauss cannon: Taken by Destoyers this is the higher end of the gauss weaponry spectrum with improved range and number of shots this is a deadly addition to any Necron task force wounding Marines on a 2 this gun is also useful for taking down light tanks, thanks to it's hosts mobility. Very nasty indeed, Marines still get a save though. Heavy gauss cannon: The Necron equivalent of a Las-cannon with good range high strength/AP this is the gun for taking down any heavy armour that foolishly dares to oppose you, as a bonus being carried by the Heavy Destroyer they get to move and can fire increasing the range somewhat. Gauss flux arc: As carried by the most controversial tank in the game the flux arc has good strength and improved AP and has the rather scary ability to fire D6 shots at each enemy unit within 12" when coupled with a deep striking Monolith this has the potential to wreak any gun line beyond repair. Particle whip: Carried by the Monolith this is a very deadly ordinance weapon its AP is enough to instantly kill marines (I'm mentioning them a lot, I wonder why) and character models with a big pie plate, it's only downside it it's limited range, though the enemy will at least be thankful, it's high strength make it good for taking out tanks too and rolling is always fun on the ordinance table. Staff of light: A close combat weapon available to the Necron lord, but with added ranged ability as a good strength high AP assault weapon, getting into charge range of a Lord just got a whole lot more deadly, and if they do get into CC it's also a handy power weapon. Warscythe: A close combat weapon available to the Necron lord and Pariahs, it is the best close combat weapon in the game, and more than makes up for Necrons lacking CC abilities. In short a warscythe stops any model hit getting an armour save, be it normal or invulnerable (Seer councils just got a lot more vulnerable). Against heavy armour the scythe allows you to gain +2D6 to your strength for penetration rolls. These scare people a lot. Disruption field: An ability available to certain units such as scarabs which essentially gives them the 'gauss effect' in close combat, a very useful upgrade and lovely and cheap points wise. So there we have it, I think whilst there ain't many to choose from, Necrons have some of the most deadly weapons in the game and are a force to be reckoned with. | |
