Armoury: Chaos - petrus - part 4

The Gifts of the Gods

Khorne

Axe of KhorneIt's basically a power weapon but it can get a character extra attacks, especially if he starts with quite a few already. I whole-heartedly endorse this weapon.
Banner of RageGet more attacks. Does a Khorne player really need more attacks? I take it as a "yes" judging by the wargear as a whole available to them. This is an interesting upgrade, but fairly costly. Good for that unit of chosen or possessed though.
Collar of KhorneGood against pesky force weapon characters and spell toting Tzeentch generals. It's cheap too.
Berserker GlaiveAn expensive weapon that means that the character becomes one sick puppy in combat. Doubling his basic amount of attacks plus additional attacks means he can kill a hell of a lot quickly. Don't forget it's a power weapon too. Nasty. They’re useful in large games, but because of the high points cost, keep them on the shelf during small skirmishes.
Feel no painThis is effectively a we'll be back roll. It is very cheap and will help your characters get up time and time again. This is an essential upgrade for all Khorne players.
Juggernaught of KhorneThis is a steed that confers a few daemonic abilities. In short: take one. It is a nice steed both visually and on the table!
Khornate Chain axeThis weapon is very nasty for one reason: It can be given to anyone in any squad. Suddenly I don't see terminators in my opponent’s army list. I wonder why. However, the downside is that it is useless against horde armies.
Rage of KhorneMore attacks! Cheap in points! Nuff said.
Talisman of burning bloodGet into combat faster. This is any Khornate general’s friend. Once again, it's cheap, and once again, it's cheerful. Another good upgrade.
Still there hey? Yeah I know, this is one long article. All I can say is the codex has a lot of stuff in it and I want to cover it all. And this next section I want to cover with soap.

Nurgle

Blight GrenadesThese are a nice upgrade for characters, but are extremely expensive. Only take them if you know you’re going against an opponent with characters like Kharn the Betrayer.
ManreaperThis sick weapon cleaves through horde armies like there's no tomorrow. Against horde armies it's deadly, against elite armies, it's still sick, increasing the chance of being able to kill stuff. A really good weapon for its points cost. A must for your lord or lieutenant.
Nurgle minor psychic powersThese are nice, simple powers. Can be nice and can tip the tide of battle.
Nurgling InfestationAnother useful upgrade. A character with these and a manreaper can do as much damage as a unit of plague marines by himself. It is a really characterful upgrade too, allowing players to make small pus ridden creatures with grins not seen since there were snotlings in 40k. Ahhh, happy days.
Nurgles rotA nice (in the sense of it working well) upgrade for squads and characters alike. It can force leadership tests, it can finish off a character or a squad, it can be hailed as a bargain from its low points cost. I heartily endorse and recommend this upgrade.
Pandemic StaffThe ultimate horde army stopper. A giant unit of tyranid gaunts can all be damaged by one model. This is an extremely nasty weapon, but is poor in combat, so for a character its best supplemented with a power weapon. Another good weapon.
Plague bannerThis is a nice banner which is really nice against character and Uber nice against big gribblies. Another good upgrade.
Plague SwordIt isn't a daemon for a start which is good, but it gets better. It functions as a power weapon and force weapon, ensuring those gribblies die, time and time again. Nice upgrade for characters and aspiring champions.

Slaanesh

Allure of SlaaneshThis power is very expensive, but can be very helpful for those assaults where you’re just two inches out. Another one of these upgrades that are worth it for the look on your opponents face.
Aura of AcquiescenceThis upgrade was more useful in 3rd edition, to stop shooty armies from fleeing and rapid firing at you which, with Tau pulse rifles, hurts. A lot. It still has its uses however, especially in special scenarios where you have to stop an enemy unit or army escaping off the board edge.
Combat drugsApart from being fun to model (a spliff and a bottle of Jack Daniels later...) combat drugs are extremely useful. They can be used to tailor to the situation you are in and are excellent for tournament play. You do have to be wary of being too ambitious, especially if given to your prized daemon prince with daemonic stature. The ability to ignore the first wound taken in the assault phase is worth it on its own too, in my honest opinion.
Lash of tormentunder fourth Ed, this weapon is dead. A normal power weapon can now do the same thing.
Slanneshi minor psychic powerAll god specific minor psychic powers are good, but the slanneshi ones are second only to Tzeentch, in my honest opinion. Firstly, one of the powers requires no psychic test. That also happens to be one of the sickest powers, especially for character in terminator armour. Secondly, the remaining powers are quite potent and can tip a game in your favour. Definitely worth it.
Needle of desireThis is a strange weapon that has a lot of potential, especially against opponent with lots of big gribblies (read: tyranids). I would at least try it. I have, and many a time has it prevailed.
Rapturous StandardGive this to a unit of slanneshi bikers, their bikes armed with sonic blasters, with your chaos lord in it! Essentially it gives a small unit a we'll be back save, which is really, really good. Expensive, but I never leave home without it.
Steed of SlaaneshI love the steed of Slaanesh for two reasons. One, the warhammer fantasy champion on steed of Slaanesh. Two, that it is useful and handy rules-wise. I'd still like to do a whole unit of chosen on one of these.

Tzeentch

Bedlam staffThis weapon is extremely useful, considering the tzeentchian's low speed. I personally think there are better things out there (a dark blade given to a character with daemonic stature... hmmm) but it isn't to be overlooked, especially by those who like their army to have a background.
Blasted standardWhen used its good, otherwise leave it at home. I personally would take one, just to see Tau/guard/some poorly armoured sod die to the name of Tzeentch. They’re also fun to model.
Bolt of ChangeI know a Thousand sons player who has given this to his whole command squad (I still tell him gift of chaos, but no one ever listens to me...) and I respect them. This is nastier than any devastator squad. A unit of ten chosen with just this is scarily cost effective for what they can do as a bunch of two wound, ballistic skill four power armoured ancient spirits. Something I would recommend, and advise to watch when you’re up against it.
Disc of TzeentchI love daemonic steeds and this is no exception. Once again, imagine that command squad. Sod effectiveness, wouldn't it look cool? A very nice upgrade for your characters and one that I think is a useful and valuable addition to the tzeentchian armoury. Worth it's weight in gold (just how much do Daemons weigh, anyway? – Ed).
Eye of TzeentchThe chaos version of the Space marine Veil of time psychic power, only it isn't quite as good. This goes in the "handy upgrade section that is practically essential" category and is very useful.
Inferno boltsA very sick upgrade, once again for that squad of uber nasty chosen. If three models usually end up underneath a blast template, ten of these on one large squad of guard. Mmm... blue flame toasted.
Minor psychic power of TzeentchThe best set of minor psychic powers in the game- I wonder why? No psychic tests are required and with such gems as withering gaze, and the ever useful pink flame. Worth their weight in daemonic fire.
Talisman of TzeentchA useful trinket, especially so against grey knight armies and other servants of the false emperor. This along with the minor psychic power "psychic duel" there can be a lot of cursing when using psychic powers in the opponents turn. Many expletives have been uttered by myself as I have been on the receiving end of this combo. Then the Tau came to the party and there were problems no more.
Thrall wizardsDon't be fooled by the wizard in the title- these guys are just sacrifices for your psyker. With powers like gift of chaos (I need not mention this again...) and bolt of change, there is plenty of benefit to be reaped from the sacrifice of these useless pawns of Tzeentch.
Twisting pathTake this in every tournament you ever go to and hypnotise those pain in the neck killer, Uber, we-will-eat-you assault units. Always nice to watch my friend’s puppies go to sleep (wulfen.) This is also a power I recommend being taken with thrall wizards, primarily because a potential 300 extra victory points is enough to seriously turn the tide of a game. Shame on those black legion players with vehicles dedicated to Slaanesh working in conjunction with this power.
Warp BladeWarp blade. Your standard "functions as a power weapon + plus neat feature" daemon weapon. However, being able to kill those pesky Librarians (or entire unit of fellow tzeentchian chosen within 12" of you) in one go. I love the smell of warp beast fried farseer in the morning...
