Simple Barriers - Daffrid

Some really quick and easy terrain this time:

Chain-link fences:

You need some square dowel or balsa wood (scavenged from Rockets after bonfire night) a suitable base material, as always with me MDF, and something to use as the chain-link, which in this case is a length of wire mesh (scavenged from the School Tech department bins a looong time ago).  Cut the dowel fence posts to suitable lengths and round off the tops, then from the base and securing them tightly in a vice cut them in half, not all the way, only as high as the chain-link top will go (leaving them looking like a fat Y shape, the thinner the saw blade the better).  Because it is now cut the mesh can be slide between the two halves of the posts so no fiddly gluing is necessary, unfortunately this can't be used for the posts at the end of the sequence, so I grooved out a suitable depression on the one side. The various posts were then wood stained when dry the mesh was inserted inside and glued to into the end post grooves.  Finally the whole thing was glued to a solid base which was flocked as appropriate.

NB: Metal mesh can produce vicious little barbed ends when cut, so watch your fingers when cutting and if possible do as I did and don't leave any exposed strands.

Tank Traps/Spikey things:

The ultimate in lazy terrain building, I found some spiked plastic in some packaging I had left over from Christmas, being a 'good' gamer I never throw any packaging away where possible, resulting in a cupboard full of polystyrene and various odd and ends.  In short I cut the spikey strips to length and glued them to a base in a crocodile teeth pattern. Quick and easy 15 mins tops.
