Simple Ruins - Daffrid

Generic ruins are a feature of many a fantasy gaming table, both card and plastic kits are available from GW and other retailers, but I prefer to make my own, the example below was constructed as usual (for me) from MDF, but thick card could be used various windows are cut and the walls are cut to look crumbled.  It's important the when you make the windows you do so at a height that your models can see/poke their weapons though.  Any ways it was all stuck together with glue, to keep it tightly together during the process, elastic bands (the type which your local postie leaves on your door step every morning) are rapped around.  Any gaps, can we smoothed over with polyfiller type substances.

To paint it is simple, (you can put more details in, but after it's been hit by a mortar I doubt many buildings remain habitable, even estate agents would be pushed the sell the 'open plan living environment').  Essentially a combination of grays was stippled on, with darker 'burn marks' added to the damaged masonry.  The wooden balcony was wood-stained, noticeably I made the inside and the outside a different colour, as I always find it odd that on the terrain I've seen a building's interior is always the same as the exterior.

In game terms either heavy weapons teams or snipers make use of it, since it confers a 4+ cover save, for 40K at least.
