Swampy Pond - Daffrid

This piece of terrain took a bit of time to complete, but is useful in game terms as it counts as difficult terrain and consequently units placed behind it are a little less vulnerable to assaults.

The piece was constructed in a few stages, firstly a solid unwarpable base was made, my preference was to use MDF, this was cut and smoothed into shape.

Modelling clay or polyfiller was then applied around the edges to create a lip and to make some small islands within the swamp.

At this stage the greenery was embedded, the bushes/reeds were made from some bits of old carpet, and some small stones were added to give extra texture.

The piece was left to dry before being undercoated and painted, for this I used somewhat exaggerated natural tones and applied the acrylic paint thickly using a dabbing technique to emulate nature and give the water a rippled effect, the thickness also aids the merging of the various colour bands.
