Tools Needed:
Hotwire cutter
Craft glue or Liquid Nails in caulking tube
Spackle, or drywall mudd
Old Internet installation CD (I use CDs for this as they are freebees and
roughly the size of ordnance)
Static Grass and /or Flocking (optional)
1" Blue, Pink, or White Insulation foam
Textured paint
Cheap plastic pallette knife
Utility knife
assorted craft paints and brushes
How To:
- First take your CD's and glue them to the flat
side of the foam in straight lines, and about 1" between each CD
and let dry, this way you can make multiple craters at once.
- Take your utility knife and score round the CD
edges, and snap the foam along the score marks.
- Use your foam cutter and taper the edges of the
craters using the CD as a guide. Take a knife and hollow out the
crater pit.
- This is the time you can add gravel to your
base if needed/wanted. textured paint is enough for craters in my
opinion, and let dry
- To finish paint however you like, most look
good with the center and top around the crater blackened from the
explosion. Because of the textured finish this can be quickly and effectively
painted using the dry-brushing method.
