Reflections of Terror - Hindsight
| There was celebration in the streets. The last of our avian allies have returned to their kindreds on Pech, no doubt relieved that at least this conflict does not require any more of their blood to be spilt. I watched them board our ships, as exhausted as they should be, none seem to show it. Even the wounded, those who could, stood and walked on their own, barely showing any signs of the wounds recieved during what the Earthers are calling the 13th Crusade.
Our victory, to think I have the right to call it that, is what has been troubling my brothers in the Water Caste. The Greater good counted many victories in this struggle, and many new brothers have been added to this cause. To think the families and compatriots of those our brothers once stood against now take up our banners and lend their strengths to the greater good. I imagine I should be overjoyed, as many of my people are, but for each of our Fire Caste brothers who fell in battle, three of these human colonists now stand in their place. I have seen reports from our encounters with this mutated enemy of the Earthers. My beloved and I sat with the highly revered Kais of the Fire Caste, his first hand encounters sent chills down my spine, how he has come through his experiences untainted by this dark enemy is beyond me. Originally he stood against the captors of our Ethereal Ko'vash, but as I understand it he and one of the Earther soldiers known as a Ultramarine battled side by side with Kais against the forces of Chaos. Perhaps Brother Kais' experiences with this Space Marine will act as a precursor for our future in this matter. For many cycles we have battled these Space Marines and their kind, I wonder sometimes if this enemy of theirs may come to bring our two peoples together, or will leave our battlefields without our Earther Opponents. They have left many of my people without their loved ones, but at times I find myself left with just pity for them. The Will of their Emperor seems to devour as many lives as the dark appetite of their Chaos foe. Many lives on all sides of this conflict have been lost. I wonder at times if our enemies recognize the cost of these actions, yes the Orks in their rampage do not seem to understand much of what they are doing, but I wonder sometimes if we could all sit down and discuss our reasons for war if we might find some common ground so that the loss of life may finally cease. There is theory among my brothers that this conflict may in time remove the threat of the Earthers from this universe. As much as that may seem like a victory to some, I fear what may happen should the Chaos forces finish with the Earthers and turn their Eye of Terror onto us. Today my people celebrate. Still, I worry. When our time comes, will we be ready?
