Lizardmen: Part 1 - Mendelev

Hey there! Allow me to introduce myself - I am known to you guys as Mendelev. I'm 20, and have been into 40k for about 10 years now. Although something of a veteran of fantasy's futuristic brother, I have never really dabbled with "that square based game".

So why have I started now? Well, there are several reasons, mainly because my 4000 odd points of freshly finished Blood Angels were stolen 1 and the thought of redoing them was just too demoralising at the moment. Plus I want to wait for the new Codex - lots of Baal Predators, methinks; but I digress.

So when I heard Dysartes mention the whole Tale of X Gamers for Fantasy, I jumped at the chance. Straight away, I knew it would be one of two armies: Bretonnians or Lizarden. The reason I have never collected either of these before was purely due to financial contraints. I remember them coming out back in the mists of time and immediately being drawn to the idea of collecting Knights or Dinosaurs, so now with the cash and the incentive, I had to choose one or the other.

Having read the background of the Lizardmen in their army book and the Bretonnians as well, I was leaning towards a Crusading army, but then a combination of seeing a certain "Lizardman God" in action - munching through Dwarfs 2 and seeing the fully painted Carnosaur model swayed me firmly back to the armies of the Old Ones.

Now that I had decided on the Lizardmen, I had to figure out what unit did what. To aid my experimentation, I borrowed a friends figures and played some games, tweaking the 1000pt list to suit my style of play. I settled on this:

ChoiceUnitNo.Equipment & UpgradesCost
HEROSaurus Scar Veteran1Light Armour, Shield, Scimitar of the Sun Resplendant, Spawning of Quetzl, Mark of the Old Ones189pts
HEROSkink Priest1Level 2 Wizard, Diadem of Power135pts
HEROSkink Chief1Light Armour, Shield, Cloak of Feathers, Venom of the Firefly Frog, Scout114pts
CORESaurus Warriors16Standard, Musician, Champion222pts
CORESkinks14Brave, Scouts96pts
COREJungle Swarm2120pts
SPECIALTerradons3Brave115pts
Total Cost1001pts

The tactics I have been using with this is for the Jungle SWarms to refuse one flank, the Saurus with the Scar Veteran push through the center. The Skinks with their lovely blowpipes set up in an advanced position, harrying any dangerous-looking units. While the Terradons push down the other flank and attack any archers and the like. The Skink Chief hunts any war machine crews all the while under the cover of the Priests magic.

With this army list as a guide, I set about this months purchases, all the while resisting the urge to buy a Carnosaur. This is what I got:

ItemMethod of PurchaseQtyCost
Saurus WarriorsBoxed Set1£15
SkinksBoxed Set1£15
TerradonsBlister3£21
Saurus OldbloodBlister1£7
Total Cost£58

So, by next month I should have settled on a paint scheme.

Until then,
Mendelev
