The Hat Squad - Tavis Hill | |||||||||||||||||||||
| View the Gang Roster What's the main theme to the gang? The Hat squad is based on Federal cops from the 1930's, done in a pulp fiction or film noir style. The weapons that the gang have are all based on ones that would have been around in that sort of period, so stub guns and shotguns are the main weapons used, with heavy stubbers and sniper rifles as heavy and special weapons respectively. What was the inspiration for the gang's theme? There are two main inspirations for the gang, other than the general pulp/noir stylings. In the film "Mulholland Falls", set in LA in the 1940's where the elite detectives are all meant to be members of "The Hat Squad". Going with the theme I'd already established, this gave me a name for the gang. The other reason for the theme of the gang is that when I was working in the Carlisle store, we had to make a model of ourselves. I based mine on a Delaque, and the gang expanded from there. What is the paint scheme for the gang? The paint scheme is fairly simple, consistent but still good looking. The coats are painted Graveyeard Earth, which is then highlighted with Kommando Khaki. The hats are painted black, and then given a blue hat band. The suits vary, depending on the model, but are generally pin-striped. All of the Hat Squad have had shirts and ties modelled on with Green Stuff. How has the gang performed in the campaign? The gang has performed pretty well - I've only suffered a couple of defeates, and I've had surprisingly few injuries. Are there any conversions you're particularly proud of? None of the converstions are particularilyadvanced - the tommy guns, which are used as heavy stubbers, are autoguns with drum magazines added, while the sniper rifle is built up using brass rod to extend the barrel of a lasgun to look like a silencer. Most of the rest of the work is just basic green stuff work. Have any of the gang members out-performed themselves? The Man in the White Suit has done really well. He started off as a Juve, but is now quite a dangerous Gang Champion, especially in a Shoot-Out. Have you had any really memorable games with the Hat Squad? One that really sticks in the mind is a game against Joe O'Hara, one of the key-timers at GW Sheffield. We'd managed to get a Shoot-Out scenario, and both gangs had had 2 gang members show up. Joe had managed to get both of his heavies to show up, whereas I'd ended up with two gunfighters attending, one of whom was the Man in the White Suit, who has Quick Draw. The gangers had gotten to being four inches away from each other, when the Hat Squad got bored and opened fire. Due to the combination of the Quick Draw skill and having pistols as his weapons, the Man in the White Suit went first and managed to put the two heavies out of action before his compatriot's guns had even cleared their holsters. Brief, but satisfying. Hat Squad Gallery
