Gribble, Gribble and Gribble Some More | |
| Another month, another £30. Time for a little recap of where I was up to. At the conclusion of last month's article, I have 10 painted Grey Slayers, and a painted Rune Priest. I'd just bought another box of Grey Slayers, and a Wolf Lord, as well as a Marine bike. So, how much progress has the army made? Well, the Grey Slayers are now painted, and the Wolf Lord is waiting on a little bit of green stuff work before I paint him. The biker is assembled, but I haven't decided what I'm doing with him yet, so he's currently sat on my painting desk. Unlike the other two gentlemen in this little feature, I've ended up working all bar one Tuesday night over the last month, meaning my time for painting and gaming has been reduced. There has also been large amounts of coursework for University, which has taken priority. So, despite getting most of my painting done, I've suffered somewhat on the gaming front, managing a mere 2 40k in 40 minutes games over the entirity of the last month. Shocking, isn't it? Well, those two games were against Yellowfish's Slaaneshi marines, and provided a bit of info on how the army works thus far. In both games, I used 2 packs of 5 Wulfen, and a pack of 6 Grey Slayers with 2 plasma guns, with a Wolf Guard Pack Leader in the squad. In the first game, Yellowfish's havocs had heavy bolters and sonic blasters, while his champion in the close combat marine squad had a power fist. In the second, his Havocs had 4 plasma guns, and his champion had a power weapon. Surprisingly, the changes didn't quite have the effect he was expecting. My notes from the first game, which ended with a complete wipe-out of the Slaaneshi marines, for the loss of 2 Wulfen and 5 Grey Slayers reads as follows: 1, Don't rely on getting turn one - I'd made a move with my Grey Slayers that would have given them a good firing position at Yellowfish's Havocs on a hill. Unfortunately for me, I lost the roll for turn 1, and lost 5 Slayers to a salvo of fire from the Havocs. 2, Wulfen can eat anything, eventually - written after one pack of five ate Yellowfish's entire army, bar the Rhino. Admittedly, the other pack did play "Chase the Rhino" for most of the game, but they got it eventually. 3, Don't leave Grey Slayers out in the open - see point 1. Like I said, the first game finished with a complete wipe-out of the Chaos forces. The rematch, however, didn't go quite as much in my favour, with all my forces being wiped out in the end. However, I still did a lot of damage to Yellowfish's force, with him having a Rhino, a single Havoc and about 3 marines left at the end of the game. So, what did I manage to pick up for my £30 this month? Fortunately for me, the local non-Games Workshop stockist, Wargames Emporium, was having a bit of a sale recently, and I managed to pick up two boxes of Wulfen with a 10% discount, saving myself another £3. This means that I have a total of £10 to add to my allowed amount in the months remaining. | |
